The 2026 desk for someone who already has a wallet on the PC: a hot client for dust and hardware for the amount that would hurt. The mistake is parking the large remainder in the same Exodus “because it is already installed”.
Two loops, one computer
Hot Electrum or Exodus can stay. Hardware does not have to replace it on day one. Split the jobs: small outgoing from hot, savings confirmed on the Trezor or Ledger screen.
The vendor companion updates firmware. Sparrow shows bitcoin detail. You do not need a third site that “connects the device”.
An order that does not break the habit
Install Suite or Live first and prove the device is alive. Then, if bitcoin spends are messy, add Sparrow as watch-only. Do not delete the hot client until you have completed two of your own hardware sends.
Do not import the hot seed into every new shortcut “for safety”. Extra copies on disk are not a backup. They are surface.
Terminals are a different shelf
TradingView and MT5 watch the market. They do not sign your outputs. You do not copy wallet keys into a terminal. The catalog keeps those shelves apart on purpose.
What stays in Exodus and what moves to hardware
Exodus is convenient when one PC runs several networks and you do not want ten shortcuts. Large bitcoin leaves it not because “Exodus is bad”, but because a hot profile on disk is one point. Hardware covers the amount you would hate to lose with the laptop.
The move is not a phrase in the browser and not a “recovery wizard” from email. It is a hardware address you show yourself in Suite, Live or Sparrow, and an outgoing from the hot client to that address. Until two of those sends land, do not delete the hot client: you will cut the path if you are not yet used to holding the device.
The Trezor Suite or Ledger Live card first if the box is already in the drawer. The Sparrow card second if bitcoin detail matters more than a ten-ticker portfolio. The Exodus card if multi-coin dust stays hot. Do not install all three “just in case” in one night.
People who already have a wallet on the PC usually break the order: they install Sparrow, Live and Suite in one evening and import the hot seed into every window. Hardware then does not save you — the phrase already multiplied on disk. One new loop at a time, two of your own sends, then the next shortcut.
